The meeting is free for AFP members and $10 for non-members. \nREGISTERKarin Cox\, MFA\nPresident \nKarin has helped Kinetic clients raise hundreds of millions of dollars through customized\, research-based counsel and guidance. She is adept at drawing out the potential in nonprofits and providing the confidence and competencies they need to raise more money than they ever thought possible. Karin has served in senior leadership roles in nonprofit and business sectors\, and is an author\, frequent presenter and senior consultant. \nKarin is the author of Fundraising Leadership: The Essential Guide for Nonprofit Board Members Who Want to Make a Lasting Difference. She developed the widely adopted Cox Grid\, which was first presented in her “Fundraising Events” chapter in Fundraising Principles and Practice\, the definitive fundraising text published by Jossey-Bass. Karin serves on the board of Kentucky to the World. She has a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. \nAaron Johnson\nSenior Vice President \nAaron has an extensive background and decades of experience managing and implementing all aspects of philanthropy including integrated plans for regular giving\, capital campaigns and special events for major donors. Aaron’s expertise is also in scaling giving programs and building donor loyalty through strategic planning\, growing major gifts and donor engagement. \nIn addition\, he has broad knowledge of and expertise in communications strategies including print and digital media for content\, creative and analytics. As an internet marketing specialist for Archon Media\, he developed strategies with clients to increase their online presence and visibility through strategic search engine optimization. \nWhile studying computer engineering and applied mathematics at Western Michigan University\, he also provided fundraising leadership to the university’s student-based telemarketing program where he hired\, trained and supervised 60 student employees; represented WMU with prospective alumni donors; interfaced with media sources; and helped raise over $1 million annually.

DESCRIPTION:Building a Case for Support & Crafting Compelling Communications  \nWe believe that stories build community. We are all made of stories. Our stories make us human\, and they are how we relate to each other. This session focuses on using those stories to craft compelling communications\, including the big job of clearly articulating a strong case for support for your organization or for a major campaign\, as well as using that storyline in all of your communications about giving – from appeals to thank-you letters. \nPresenters: \n\nAllan Burrows\, Partner/CEO\, CapDev\nClare Jordan\, Vice President\, CapDev\n\nNetworking: 8 a.m.\nProgram: 8:30-9:30 a.m. \nEveryone is welcome to attend. The meeting is free for AFP members and $10 for non-members. \nREGISTER \nAllan Burrows has been with Capital Development Services since 1994\, and president since 2006. He manages the company’s marketing\, operations\, campaign and search divisions\, and presents to dozens of conferences and board sessions every year. Allan is a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill\, and began his development career at the Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina and at the North Carolina Child Advocacy Institute. In his 30+ years of fundraising experience\, Allan has led campaigns and development work throughout the Southeast for a broad array of nonprofits\, and is experienced at working with leadership on all aspects of philanthropy. He is passionate about engaging clients and people in realizing that philanthropy is more than just “fundraising.” He is a frequently requested and dynamic speaker\, known for sharing relevant and interesting stories from his own experience with CapDev clients. A North Carolina native\, Allan has served on numerous nonprofit boards over the years\, including two terms with the N.C. Center for Nonprofits\, and was awarded the Triad AFP Lifetime Achievement for Fundraiser of the Year in 2011. \nClare Jordan’s passion lies in “teaching philanthropy\,” a skill honed through two decades of researching\, lived experience\, and presenting on topics related to generosity. Having held positions in nonprofit management since the early 1990s\, she shares expertise from serving in staff and volunteer leadership roles in marketing and development with nonprofits around the Southeastern U.S. From launching into the nonprofit sector as a student at North Carolina State University where she founded the Campus Chapter of Habitat for Humanity\, to chairing N.C. State University’s Institute for Nonprofits Advisory Board; the UNC School of the Arts Board of Visitors; and Social Innovation & Entrepreneurship at N.C. State University\, Clare has served on a variety of other nonprofit boards\, is a BoardSource certified Nonprofit Board Consultant\, and was named to the Triad Business Journal’s “40 Leaders Under 40” in 2008 and awarded Distinguished Alumna of the Year for the College of Humanities at NC State University in 2021.
