CLASSIFICATION:             Full-time, Exempt

Salary Range:                       $55,000 – $65,000

Reports to:                             President/Chief Executive Officer

Position Summary

The Development Officer plays a pivotal role in leading and executing the YWCA Lower Cape Fear’s fundraising and capital campaign initiatives. Working closely with the President/CEO and Board of Directors, this individual will drive strategic fundraising efforts, build strong donor relationships, and enhance community partnerships to support the organization’s mission.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and manage all aspects of fundraising campaigns, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
Maintain clear and consistent communication with senior leadership, board members, and campaign volunteers to track and enhance fundraising efforts.
Identify, cultivate, and solicit major gift prospects through strategic engagement and stewardship.
Provide guidance and support in recruiting, training, and managing campaign volunteers.
Conduct donor outreach, including meetings and cultivation events, in collaboration with campaign leaders and volunteers.
Oversee and execute a comprehensive fund development plan that increases revenue streams and ensures long-term sustainability.
Identify and engage corporate, community, and individual prospects to support fundraising priorities.
Strengthen donor relationships and enhance retention through personalized stewardship strategies.
Maintain and manage a donor database, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy of donor records.
Research, write, and submit grant proposals, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.
Coordinate a robust donor recognition program to acknowledge contributions effectively.
Lead public relations and communication strategies, including social media, marketing materials, and media relations, to support fundraising efforts.
Plan and execute logistics for fundraising events, meetings, and donor engagement initiatives.
Work closely with leadership to ensure timely execution of campaign materials, including proposals, donor recognition opportunities, and follow-up communications.
Serve as a key advocate for the YWCA’s mission, fostering meaningful relationships that drive engagement and philanthropic support.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Mission Alignment: Champion the YWCA’s values through program involvement and community advocacy efforts, such as Conversations for Peace, Until Justice Just Is, and the MLK Parade.

Qualifications

Strong commitment to the YWCA’s mission and ability to communicate its values effectively.
Demonstrated success in fundraising, donor cultivation, and major gift solicitation.
Proven experience in volunteer coordination and project management.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and a commitment to excellence.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and donor CRM software.
Deep understanding of trends in charitable giving, including capital campaigns, major gifts, grants, and planned giving.
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
At least 3+ years of successful development and communications management experience.
Five years of proven experience in fundraising or development work preferred.
CFRE certification is a plus.
