Job Title: Development and Communications Assistant
Reports to: Director of Development & Communications
Hours: Part-time (20 hours per week). Monday-Friday with occasional nights and weekends. Work hours will be agreed upon in advance and are expected to remain consistent from week to week. Occasional flexibility may be required to support events or deadlines.
Compensation: $20-22 per hour. Nonexempt. 10 paid holidays, paid time off, and professional development allotment.

Job Purpose
The Development and Communications Assistant plays a critical role in advancing NourishNC’s mission to feed food insecure children by supporting fundraising operations, donor communications, and development systems. This position ensures accurate gift processing, timely donor acknowledgements, and consistent, high-quality communications across multiple platforms.

This individual must be able to convey the importance of NourishNC’s work passionately and persuasively across several platforms and mediums, helping donors, partners, and the broader community understand both the urgency of child hunger and the impact of their support. This position balances detail-oriented administrative work with creative storytelling and communication support, helping strengthen donor relationships and organizational sustainability.

Duties & Responsibilities
Donor Data & Gift Management
• Accurately process and track all donations, ensuring timely entry into the CRM and related systems
• Manage gift imports and exports between platforms (e.g., CRM, online giving platforms, accounting systems)
• Prepare, print, and coordinate timely tax acknowledgement letters and annual giving statements
• Maintain and update donor records, including tribute gifts, soft credits, and recurring donations
• Coordinate volunteer support for donor mailings (notes, stuffing, stamping, and mailing)

Donor Communications & Stewardship Support
• Assist with donor outreach and stewardship communications, including acknowledgements, tributes, and segmented messaging
• Prepare board and staff call sheets and donor lists as needed
• Support annual giving communications and other donor touchpoints to ensure consistency and professionalism

Marketing & Communications Support
• Create and schedule social media content across multiple platforms, using a strategic and creative approach to increase engagement and visibility
• Assist with newsletters, appeals, and other digital or printed communications as assigned
• Collect stories, quotes, and photos that highlight NourishNC’s impact and programs

Photography & Visual Assets
• Coordinate organizational photography, including taking photos at programs and events when needed
• Organize, label, and maintain the photo library for easy access and future use
• Update in-house slideshow and other visual displays on a regular schedule

Events & Special Projects
• Provide general development and event support, including preparation and on-site assistance for fundraising events
• Assist with auction item entry and event logistics as needed
• Support volunteer recognition efforts, including Volunteer of the Month coordination (collecting quotes, photos, and assisting with graphics)
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• 1-3 years of experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, communications, or a related field preferred
• Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to communicate mission-driven work with warmth, clarity, and enthusiasm
• Comfort working with donor databases/CRMs and learning new systems
• Experience with social media platforms and basic graphic design tools (e.g., Canva) a plus
• Successful candidates must actively with social media and have a working understanding of platform trends, features and engagement best practices
• Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt in a fast-paced environment
• Passion for NourishNC’s mission and commitment to serving children and families with dignity

Licenses & Other Requirements
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred
• Ability to occasionally work evenings or weekends for events or deadlines
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds as needed (e.g., event materials, mailings)
